Fallston resident John Derwart, 78, was pronounced dead at the scene shortly before 1 p.m. on Thursday afternoon following a reported crash on Route 165 in the area of Furnace Road and Hunt Field Way after crashing a BMW 328i through Jarrettsville. According to the sheriff’s office, Scott Thommen, 54, of Delta, was driving a construction vehicle in an active work zone while Derwart was traveling north on the highway when they collided.
